SOUND TRANSIT FEDERAL WAY LOYAL TO THE LOCAL SEO PROGRAM

Background
You don’t need me to tell you that it has been a challenging time for small businesses in the Puget Sound Region. Nearly two years of fluctuating capacity limits, reduced foot traffic due to remote work, mask and vaccine requirements have pushed most to the brink, and put some completely out of business. In 2024 businesses in Kent, Des Moines and Federal Way will have a new direct line to customers, leading to new markets and opportunities every 6-8 minutes. However, in the short term, construction contributes to the struggle.

Measurable Results

Participating Businesses saw, on average, a 44-60% increase in direction requests to their small business.

Program Strategies

  • That’s where the Loyal to the Local Search Engine Optimization [SEO] Program comes in.
  • This program worked in conjunction with the larger Loyal to the Local program. Together, Loyal to the Local and the SEO systems work together to promote local district shopping overall, while at the same time giving the individual business attention, resources and results to help it succeed in the short and long term.
  • While Loyal to the Local spreads the word about the importance of shopping local storefronts, Kick Marketing comes in to fill the gaps at the individual business level. The SEO portion of the program focuses on Google Business Profiles (formerly known as Google My Business). This narrow focus is because Google accounts for 90% of searches. Businesses with current and completed profiles can see their direction requests increase by 35% percent, according to Google.

Program Tactics

The Loyal the Local SEO Program provides direct benefits to impacted businesses by improving their presence on Google. We focus on each business individually by doing a deep dive on its individual needs to help it gain search engine success. We look into what customers are saying about the business, and research other businesses they are competing with. We also gather a punch list of SEO strategies that can help this business show up more often on local Google searches, positioning it for more foot traffic. In addition to providing the business with personalized Kick Start 5-Point recommendations, Kick Marketing also conducts personalized training, both onsite and online. And it goes further than research and training. Small business owners have a lot on their plate. Therefore, if the business owner agrees, Kick Marketing goes to work to make sure their Google Profile is set up for success. Kick Marketing then creates and integrates targeted new content, based on customer conversations.
